ICVCM to Begin Assessment of 100+ Carbon Credit Methodologies

February 6, 2024

The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market aims to assess 100+ active carbon credit methodologies for adherence to high-integrity Core Carbon Principles (CCPs). The assessment, led by experts, categorizes methodologies into 36 groups and undergoes rigorous evaluation.

🌿 Categories cover diverse areas like renewable energy, efficient cookstoves, and methane reduction. Some, like REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation), raise complex issues and require multi-stakeholder assessments.

πŸ’‘ Programs seeking CCP labels undergo scrutiny. The Council prioritizes robustness, aiming for transparent decisions by end of March. CCP-labelled credits ensure genuine emissions impact, robust safeguards, and high governance standards.

🌱 CCP-labelled credits aim to scale the market, mobilize private capital, and support Global South countries in meeting climate goals. They’re seen as an international standard by governments and regulators, influencing policies globally.

🀝 The Council invites market stakeholders to a Market Consultation Group to ensure transparency and gather feedback on market infrastructure.
