As of July 1, 2024, Verra has inactivated the VCS Methodology VM0022, which quantified N2O emissions reductions from agricultural crops. Key reasons for this decision include:
1. No projects registered using VM0022 since its 2013 publication.
2. Outdated approach for quantifying N2O emissions.
3. Incomplete GHG accounting, especially for soil organic carbon changes.
Verra will instead focus on updating nitrogen management and N2O reduction approaches in VM0042, aiming for version 3.0.
Stakeholders are invited to participate in a pre-consultation survey on the revised methodology.
