U of G Researcher Leads National Effort to Reduce Nitrous Oxide, Major Source of Canada’s Emissions

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a powerful greenhouse gas, 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide (CO2), and it makes up one-third of Canada’s agricultural emissions. To tackle this, the CANN2ONET research network, led by Dr. Claudia Wagner-Riddle from the University of Guelph, has secured $7.9 million in funding. This initiative unites experts to develop strategies for reducing N2O emissions and promoting sustainable farming practices.

CANN2ONET will equip farmers with the tools to manage nitrogen effectively, track emissions, and help us meet our net-zero goals.

We are proud to support the CANN2ONET initiative with in-kind contributions from Viresco. This is extremely timely and important work for Canada (and the world).
