Adapting Fed Cattle GHG Reduction Protocol for Verra’s VCS Program

September 4, 2024

TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods is working with Viresco Solutions Inc. to adapt an existing Quantification for reducing GHG emissions from fed cattle protocol into Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program. This protocol was originally developed for use within Alberta’s Emission Offset System, and quantified emission reductions related to alteration in feeding strategies and other technologies in the finishing stages of beef cattle at the feedlot. A technical expertise working group has been established in order to make the corresponding updates required to make the protocol globally applicable. Applicable project activities within the proposed methodology will include:

  • Improved cattle management
  • Diet reformulation
  • Feed ingredients, feeding technologies and strategies
  • Growth promoters
  • Other innovative strategies

Viresco Solutions Inc. is working with TELUS Agriculture & Consumer Goods to release this new methodology by 2025. We are currently in step 3 – Draft Methodology, of Verra’s 6 step Methodology and Development Process.
