ICVCM Assessment Decisions Announced

August 7, 2024

Yesterday, the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) made a bold decision to reject over 30% of the current market volume, highlighting a critical need for updated methodologies. Many of today’s methodologies, unchanged for 15 years, no longer reflect current realities.

Despite the urgency to scale climate finance, outdated methodologies undermine the credibility of carbon credits. The ICVCM’s rejection of these outdated methods ensures funds go where they are needed most, while their new Continuous Improvement Work Program aims to engage experts in developing next-generation carbon crediting methodologies. With better data and tools at our disposal, we can create robust methodologies that support impactful projects.

This outcome will have a significant effect on restoring trust within the Voluntary Carbon Market, ensuring high-integrity outcomes that contribute meaningfully to global climate goals! For more information, click here!
