🌍 Biodiversity loss affects everyone – but some are more vulnerable to those effects than others.
📊 A 2024 biodiversity footprint study of 2,300+ companies within the MSCI All Country World Index found that agrifood companies have:
· The highest impact and
· Greatest dependence on biodiversity and ecosystem services
This makes biodiversity loss a critical challenge—and opportunity—for the agrifood sector
Are you in the agrifood industry and looking for ways to track and measure biodiversity change?
🔎 Have you heard of the Bird-Friendliness Index?
🐦 Originally developed by the Audubon Society and now used by Birds Canada, the Bird-Friendliness Index (BFI) is a biodiversity indicator that assesses and communicates the impacts of on-farm management practices on bird populations
🐦 It combines bird species density data with conservation scores and distills this information into a single, easy-to-communicate score between 0 and 1, where any score above 0.5 represents above-average benefits to birds
When it comes to potential market applications and value propositions of tools, such as the BFI, there is a lot unknown
🔎 What could you stand to benefit from a tool like the BFI? What are some key barriers? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
