Demonstrating Reduced Enteric Methane Emissions in Beef Cattle

Athian’s New Carbon Insetting Marketplace Revolutionizes Livestock Farming

February 13, 2024

Athian has launched a pioneering livestock carbon insetting marketplace, featuring a protocol aimed at reducing enteric methane emissions and improving feed utilization, in collaboration with Elanco Animal Health. This platform allows farmers to monetize their emission reductions, benefiting the global food system’s sustainability. Athian offers economic incentives through carbon credits generation and sales, benefiting both farmers and the environment. The marketplace targets the dairy industry initially, with plans to expand to other sectors. The collaboration integrates Elanco’s UpLook™ tool for measuring GHG emissions, complementing Athian’s verification system. This initiative addresses challenges in reducing Scope 3 emissions, particularly from raw material production. Early adoption by Dairy Farmers of America demonstrates the potential for significant emissions reduction in the U.S. dairy industry. Overall, Athian’s livestock carbon marketplace represents a crucial step toward climate-neutral farming and sustainability in the agricultural sector. Read more here.
