A groundbreaking billion-dollar pact for biodiversity has just been inked. The federal government, British Columbia, and the First Nations Leadership Council have introduced a monumental Tripartite Framework Agreement on Nature Conservation. This remarkable initiative marks a substantial leap toward Canada’s objective of safeguarding 30% of its lands and waters by 2030. A whopping $1 billion (CAD) investment is earmarked for habitat protection, safeguarding endangered species, preventing wildfires, and sharing knowledge. This includes a $50 million (CAD) commitment to shield 13,000 square kilometers of old-growth forests.
This accord also champions the invaluable role of First Nations in nature conservation, empowering their influence in governmental decision-making while recognizing their deep-rooted connection to the land.
It is wonderful to witness Canada taking significant strides both domestically and globally and becoming a leader within the conservation space! 🦬🌎 #30×30 #naturerecovery #gbf #canada #naturepositive
