Bezos Earth Fund announces Global Methane Genetics Initiative

The Bezos Earth Fund (dubbed the ‘world’s first coordinated effort to breed low-methane cattle at scale) is backing efforts to breed cattle that naturally emit less methane as a strategy to cut agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. Selective breeding, combined with genetics research and methane tracking, could significantly reduce livestock’s climate impact without cutting meat production. This approach aims to offer a scalable, farmer-friendly solution that supports climate goals while maintaining food system resilience.
