Gold Standard has unveiled its first-ever methodology for the sustainable management of mangroves, featuring innovative remote-sensing technology for accurate measurement and impact quantification. This new approach, developed with FORLIANCE, expands nature-based solutions (NbS) and includes comprehensive Blue Carbon and Freshwater Wetland Activity Requirements.
Mangroves, vital for climate mitigation and adaptation, are critical for carbon sequestration—storing up to five times more carbon than land-based forests. They also protect against storms, erosion, and flooding while supporting biodiversity. This methodology supports mangrove restoration projects that replant native species, improve water quality, and promote sustainable practices.
